Technically , My first WorkPlace !! NetApp !!

As an Intern , My experience at NetApp  started with the recruitment process. As this is my (and for most other interns) first job ,it would mean a lot more than just a job . The college-student-fears would give us a lot of doubts and expectations. Fortunately , here at the very first day during recruitment, it was all gone and answered by the environment itself . The first few hours I walked around the place with people walking around seeming happy to work here. That’s all I needed to get me started to transform from a  student to an employee.
On the first day as an Intern , the orientation as we can call it , was very well organized and had the HR team helping us through the on-boarding  process with so much patience and a warm smile .
As Interns , we were assured we were going to  have a really good learning experience and to compliment it , it would also going to be super fun .
Not for one day I felt NetApp let me down with my expectations .
NetApp is concerned for our everyday needs and it provides us facilities at standards which would spoils us for choice.
I would specially like to mention about NetApp university . It definitely stands true to its name. I took up 3 courses .
1.       Campus-to-Corporate :  One experience which makes my transition from student-to-employee more easier and disciplined.
2.       Perl Programming 1 : An online tutorial , well planned and truly informative .
3.       Perl Programming 2 : It was a 3 day class. The hands-on experience made learning faster and more fun

What really matters to have a good time is what u deal with every day. And every day I work with a team so motivated which is definitely infectious . My team has been so supportive . They don’t make us feel amateur at all. They include us in every discussion and make us look involved . They do not hesitate for a minute to clear our silliest of doubts . How the day passes by , we hardly notice . It is definitely so involving .

Talking about the fun we have , our HR team organized an Intern outing at Bluemoon Retreat Resort recently. The Day was well spent , NetApp style !!  Our day of fun started as soon as we all boarded the bus. It was a day with no flaw but super fun. The games we played, the adventure sports and more importantly we got to see each other outside office and I feel I know a lot of my co-interns much better than I earlier did. The outing definitely served the purpose . It was a riot of fun for me !!
And Beer Bash , If I don’t mention this, My testimony would be incomplete. As the name suggests, Bash it is definitely . Why would anybody (note: even for non-alcoholics) spend Friday evenings at office if it wasn’t fun??
I could go on and on about my everyday life here and it would still have lots of things unsaid. I would say , I couldn’t have started my career in a better fashion . I would always be grateful . NetApp truly stands dear to all us interns and we would cherish it .

Rules For Politicians !!

Since the time , I have understood the word "Politics" , it hardly meant anything positive. Sometimes Its funny how politics is a common topic for eveyone in the world to discuss. You can have any two people in the world in a conversation , say about Obama , and they'd end up with opinions. Politics makes and breaks the world . But I am not writing this to enforce my opinion about poilitics, but just a collection of 10 things what I 've learnt about politics and politicians in India. Humor intended .. :-p

10 Things u need to know about a Girls Hostel ( M.I.T Manipal in particular) !!!

When I first decided to take up my  higher education there was, obviously, a lot of curiosity , excitement and nervousness surrounding it. My parents thought it was just another plan I come up with everyday as to what I am going to do with my life . I was pretty sure about getting into the college and making it to be a Post-Grad no matter what. Why my parents thought otherwise was because , I had to stay away from home in a "HOSTEL" , which was an unimaginable place my folks could imagine me having a life at. Its obvious, cos being a home bird that I am, its difficult at the PG level to have an independent life. But If not now then when ? oh!!! all that I-want-to-have-an-independent-life shit had a big say at home :-p

Hostel was pretty much the place I was gonna live. Staying outside in an apartment with a bunch of people who I would not know in person, at first wasn't like a pretty scene for me. With so much anticipation and excitement combined with fears and  inhibitions ,I stepped into my hostel life .Cheers !!

Living here for the last 8 months was just enough for me to understand what makes living in a girls hostel more comfortable. I  thought I could share a few of them here , to give u an insight about a better hostel experience.

1. Teddy Bears.. What did you think ?????? its a girls hostel ..!!
I know , the first point I  put across is as lame as u just read it. But trust me .. its important. You are a teddy-bear person or not, have one in your room even if you don't have space for yourself, make some for the teddy bear. It becomes a good ice breaker with your fellow hostel mates. Makes you look sensitive. And if your stuffed toy is really cute..trust me.. some of your hostel-mates (teddy lovers) will be more than cordial to you.And I am a teddy-bear lover :-)

2. Fancy Hostel Cloths... why not ?? its a chance to make a statement..!!!!
Until you become a hostelite.. all you  were bothered  about was what you would wear to college, a date, an outing or a night club.. now its time to add HOSTEL to your list . Keep the "COMFORTABLE CLOTHING" at the top of the  agenda .You could make a statement if you wore something fancy , yet comfortable and greatly affordable.. And this is your chance to wear cloths which you are not allowed back home. Noodle straps, shorts, knee length night suit, just anything you fantasised to wear ..Bring them on !!!!

3. Dark shaded  Bed spreads and Hostel Chappals. !!!
Why are these two combined under one point ?? well they both intend towards the cleanliness you gotta handle and maintain in Hostel. If you like baby pink , turquoise, peach, lemon yellow , white etc etc , leave em behind until you are in hostel at least for your bed spreads(if the hostel does not provide one ) .
light colored bed spreads attract a lot of stains in terms of "foot prints" , if not your clean feet , you could have a fellow hostel mate, who hangs out at your room on your bed having a mildly dusty feet , and when they go back to their room they would leave a mark behind on your bed spread. If u had just changed your sheets and no way u can wash them again, its better go for a darker shade for your bed spread . And ,for "you" not to be the 'dusty-feet-babe', use hostel chappals.. so now you know why hostel chappals and dark bed spreads go hand in hand :-p

4. Kettle/induction cooker
I can bet you will be bored with your mess food in less than 15 days. And tired looking for alternative and restaurants  the next 15 days and maggi would be the best thing invented for the rest of your hostel life. Now the retail food industry has so much to offer with respect to instant food ,you could just exploit all of em with just one Water kettle(another super invension!!!!) .. Mid-night hunger would be a thing of the past :-p

5. Internet.. Hard disk full of movies, television series
Not always your best hostel-mate gonna hang-out with you, And if u don have an interesting bunch of them in the first place.. and if u have days of no work and purpose.. Internet and Television series will give you both work and purpose and WISDOM if not anything :-p

6. Head-phones
You need them on for two reasons..
       1. to not disturb others while enjoying your movie, song or even while talking on skype
       2. to cut the noise from the outside and be lost in your own world ... which is pretty much gonna be the case.

7. Bucket Trolley/Spike buster
If you are the delicate darling at home where u took a shower for hours under hot water and never tried to lift a bucket of hot water ?? "Please get the bucket trolley".
Yes, there are hostels where you have one water heater per floor and you need to get in queue to get a bucket of hot water and  if you have the strength of taking just half a bucket of water.." Get a bucket trolley'

Charge your phone(sometimes 2 of em), your laptop, water kettle , mosquito  repellent and all in one plug point next to your bed..?? Now that's when you need a Spike buster :-) right next to your bed is the best place to have it :-p

8. The grocery.

-Coffee/Dairy whitener/ sugar. If you are a coffee person
  - Maggi/oats/MTR ready to eat For those times where Mess and restaurant seem to be a very far away place, hard to commute and you just had a hard day (accept it!! there would be more I-am-too-lazy-to-walk-till-the-mess days than hard days!!)
  - Oregano seasoning - Save some from your dominos outing. They are just great with anything and everything , including maggi...slurrpp :-p
-Tang - a drink any time of the day and DEFINITELY NOT RASNA !!!
   - Munchies Like lays, haldirams sev, cashewnuts, kurkure, good day etc etc keep them at disposal for any time snacks . You would go crazy if you develop crave for them and they aren't around . And more important remember to hide some .. all chances u would end up with nothing if they are all put on display in your room

9. Alternate Roomie
If you have a roomie who is most likely to shuttle between hometown and college very often, and if you are the girl who is scared of darkness /loneliness/creepy sounds/ insomniac , have an alternate roomie. A hostel campus is prone to unlikely incidents like Suicides ,accidents and others which could lead to a scary scenario. If your roomie isn't strong enough to support you or if she isn't around, have a hostel mate who could come over to your room to be with you or you could go to her room to be with.

10. Yes Its a girls hostel, Even then, keep your girl stuff as less visible as you can
Most of the times when I take a stroll around the hostel, the unpleasant sight of girl essential breaks my day. Its not a pleasing sight to see somebody Else's dirty linen drying out for days out in the open. Please Keep it to yourself. If its inevitable to display, please make sure its at least clean enough so that others are not uncomfortable

All the above points somehow summarises the situations you are one day or the other going to face in a hostel. But to wait to experience all these you most importantly gotta have "PATIENCE , TOLERANCE and MATURITY" . These three things are the most likely things your hostel mates might not have but  its for you to have, to have a pleasant , memorable and peaceful Hostel Life !! Cheers !!
